England Pen Pals

Our class has pen pals from Maidenhead, England! We received our first letters and a small treat from our pen pals the first week back from Winter Break. Our pen pals are from Boyne Hill Infant School in Maidenhead, England which is about 45 minutes west of London. We are excited to learn more about England and continue writing with our new friends throughout the year.

Check out the link below to learn more about where our pen pals go to school.

Jr. Chef

Second graders became Jr. Chefs this week. We helped create a Marinara Sauce by breaking apart cauliflower florets with our hands. We learned about food safety and how important our five senses are to the process of cooking. Below is the Jr. Chef Recipe for you to enjoy!

Compliments

We earned our tenth classroom compliment! We are awarded tally marks every time we receive a compliment from an adult in the school. When we tally up a certain amount, we earn a reward. Our first reward was to enjoy some Cheez-It Party Mix before heading out to recess. Our next goal is 12 compliments. If you see us following ROSE or doing a great job at school, let us know!

2nd Grade

Wordle: 2011-2012

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as your child’s new second grade teacher.  My name is Mrs. Allison Downing.  This is my fourth year teaching elementary students. Prior to moving to Colorado, I taught third grade in Minnesota for two years. This will be my second year teaching at Rose Hill Elementary and I am super excited! Rose Hill is a wonderful school and I really enjoy working on such a fantastic team.

Second grade is a year of increased independence.  After dropping your child off, please encourage them to walk to class and begin their school day on their own.  I can also use your support in requiring your student to be responsible for their homework, Friday Folders, library books, etc…  It is a school-wide expectation that all students read at least 20 minutes each night.  2nd graders need to log the amount of time that they read and a parent signature is required every day.

If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 303-853-5972.  I consider myself honored to be teaching at Rose Hill Elementary.  I am looking forward to working with your children and meeting each of you in the near future.
